Joey’s Wings on the Capitol Hill On September 22nd with KidneyCAN asking legislators to restore kidney cancer research funding through Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program under the Department of Defense. In March this year, Congress passed a year-long continuing resolution redirected 57% of the CDMRP budget to other areas within the DoD. As a result, kidney cancer research funding was completed eliminated, from 50 million in 2024 to 0 for FY 2025. It was devastating. Medical research is not political. Yet the only federal research program focused solely on kidney cancer is now eliminated. That’s why we were on the Hill: every dollar cut from this program delays progress and puts lives at risk. Kidney cancer is on the rise, especially among younger adults. We need more answers, not fewer!
